Our Story
Carmichael Farm is a family-run farm spanning around 400 acres, centrally located with fields in both Angus and Perthshire. The farm sits on South-facing slopes overlooking the River Tay and the Carse of Gowrie, an area famed for its fruit-growing.
THE PORTERS
Nicola and Angus
We have been based on Carmichael Farm together since November 1998, originally living in the Farmhouse where we brought up our 3 kids.
Our farm is still a busy, working strawberry and cattle farm but it has changed a lot since then! Over the years we have had sheep, cows, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, potatoes, wheat, barley, and bean crops.
We renovated the Farmhouse, which is situated just below the farm steading, in 2015 and bought the Hillhouse, which sits on the top of the farm, offering breathtaking views, in 2020, completing renovations in 2026!
Nowadays
We grow strawberries, beans, barley, wheat, grass, and have around 70 Blue Grey cows, and two breeding Stabiliser bulls (Yapper and Wilbur!), some of which you might see in a neighbouring field. The farm has a lot of mature hedging and grass margins with wildflowers mixed in, prioritising wildlife and insect habitats, making for some lovely walks on the farm and the surrounding area.
We have always been interested in eating and living well, growing healthy food, and the healing power of nature. This has inspired us to start our journey of adopting regenerative farm practices in 2023. Our aim is to create a natural farm where we aren’t using toxins, by looking after our soil and working with nature for the health of this generation and future generations to come!
